Redcoats Invade Marsa!

The objective was to score the first victory for the Redcoats in Mustang territory.

This Saturday morning 25 heavily armed Redcoats along with their coaches and travelling supporters invaded the Marsa Sports Grounds with a well defined mission. The objective was to score the first victory for the Redcoats in Mustang territory.

In the first encounter the young Redcoats (Redcoats Softball) did exceptionally well. They lead 2-0, 3-1, 3-2, and 5-4 at the end of the top half of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. The Mustangs, last year’s national softball league champions, kept coming back and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th, and 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th for a final score of 5-12 in their favour.

This was an extremely positive performance especially for players like Denise Xuereb (P), Yana Vella (1B), Alicia Said (2B), Gianella Mallia (SS), and Annabel Said (3B). These infielders playing at these positions for the first time, along with their teammates, showed that with more experience, their team will be very difficult to beat.

In the second game, the Ghajnsielem Redcoats players heartened by the encouraging performance of their teammates, put on an amazing defensive display shutting down the mighty Mustangs to win 3-0!

Mission accomplished! The Marsa Sports Ground has been conquered. The Mustangs tamed!

Obviously this was simply the first hurdle in what was the season opener for both our teams. There is much room for improvement in every department, but this tightly knit group of young girls and boys seem determined to work hard to improve so that they will be able to take their game to a higher level.
