Jasmine Bonnici and Estelle Scicluna were again excellent with the glove registering seven put-outs and nine assists respectively.
Both Redcoats’ youth teams bounced back from disappointing performances last weekend in Mellieha and played good softball today at the Sannat Ground. Redcoats Softball lost 0-5 to the Grand Slammers but looked very good defensively. The inclusion of Jasmine Bonnici at 2nd base and Estelle Scicluna at 3rd base made a significant difference with Jasmine recording an assist and five put-outs while Estelle had three assists and four put-outs.
In the second game Ghajnsielem Redcoats allowed only six Blue Jays to reach base in a 2-0 shut-out win. While producing an excellent defensive performance committing just two errors, the Ghajnsielem Redcoats continued to struggle at the plate, registering only seven base hits. The all-important runs came in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Malcolm Refalo and Kirsty Bonnici managed to get on base with nobody out and moved to 2nd and 3rd following an error by the Blue Jays. Then Estelle Scicluna had an RBI ground out as did Ian Refalo to give a 2-0 lead to the Ghajnsielem Redcoats.
The Redcoats were very careful not to concede any runs. Jasmine Bonnici and Estelle Scicluna were again excellent with the glove registering seven put-outs and nine assists respectively. This was the 3rd shutout win of the season for the Redcoats.
Next up for the Ghajnsielem Redcoats are back-to-back games against the Grand Slammers starting next Sunday in Mellieha. Well done to both Mellieha teams as well as to all the Redcoats’ players who really worked hard to put on a good performance today.
