This was the second walk-off win for the Rangers who finished the preliminary group stage with a record of 3 wins and a loss topping the group and a place in the Gozo Cup Final to be played on Monday.

The Connaught Rangers have today booked a place in next Mondays Gozo Cup Final after two fine wins at the Sannat Ground.

In their first game the Connaught Rangers came from behind to beat the Leinster Royals 7-5 after trailing 3-5 at the end of the 3rd inning. They scored four runs in the top of the 4th inning, with Malcolm Refalo hitting a double to drive in two runs. With that defeat the Royals finished the group phase with a record of one win, two losses and a tie. On Monday, July 21, they will play the loser of the deciding game between the Rangers and the Athletics in a playoff .

The second game of the doubleheader was a decider between the Connaught Rangers and the 31st Athletics. The winner would top the group and head straight to the final, while the loser would face the Royals for a right to contest the cup final. The Rangers scored a run in the bottom of the 1st inning and added a second in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 0-2 lead after three innings. The Athletics were having difficulties at the plate until the 4th inning when with three consecutive hits they managed to start a rally that saw them even the score at 2.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the first batter of the Rangers, Ian Refalo, smashed a line drive to right field that went all the way to the wall for an inside-the-park walk-off home run. This was the second walk-off win for the Rangers who finished the preliminary group stage with a record of 3 wins and a loss topping the group and securing a place in the Gozo Cup Final to be played on Monday. The 31st Athletics finished third in the group stage with a win, two defeats and a tie.

Therefore, on Monday, July 21st the Leinster Royals will host the 31st Atheltics in the playoff. The winner will then play the Connaught Rangers in the Gozo Cup Final. The first game will start at 5:45pm at the Sannat Ground. The second game is expected to start at 6:45pm.
