It was an honour for the Redcoats to be the only organisation based in Gozo to participate in the European Week of Sports initiative
The players making up the all-girls’ softball team of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats participated in a two-day pre-season clinic with Maltese-Canadian softball player/coach Shannon Galea. The three sessions were part of the European Week of Sports #BeActive initiative organised by the European Commission in which well over 4.5 million Europeans participated in 34 countries. It was an honour for the Redcoats to be the only organisation based in Gozo to participate in this initiative.
The focus of the training camp was on improving the fundamental softball skills, mainly throwing, fielding and batting. All participants were keen to improve and they showed significant improvement during the course of the three two-hour sessions. This training camp will serve as a good base for the team for the start of the season. The first practice session for the Redcoats’ softball team is scheduled for Monday, September 21, from 1:30pm at the Sannat Football Ground. The Redcoats’ youths baseball team will also start their season on Independence Day at the Sannat Football Ground. The session will be from 3pm till 4:30pm. The first practice session for the minors, which is made up of boys and girls 7 to 10 years old, will coincide with the session of the youths’ softball team.
Coaches and players alike are all excited and very much looking forward to the start of the season.
