ACTIVITY MATTERS

An excellent opportunity for children who have never played basketball, baseball or volleyball to try them out and find out if they enjoy playing these sports

On Sunday, September 20, the Ghajnsielem Redcoats participated in the ACTIVITY MATTERS initiative at the Gozo Sports Complex between 3pm and 6pm.

The three hour long activity started with basketball. Bruno di Pietrantonio conducted a session that included ball familiarisation exercises, dribble and shoot drill, and finished with a free throw challenge. For the hour dedicated to baseball, Steve Ellis along with Joseph Scicluna and Estelle Scicluna conducted a typical training session. It started with a base running relay which the participants thoroughly enjoyed. There were two stations batting off a tee and another station that focused on throwing the ball overhead. For the final hour Kris Croker, of the School of Volleyball and the Sliema Wonderers Volleyball Club, along with his assistant Matthew, introduced volleyball to the participants.

This was an excellent opportunity for children who have never played basketball, baseball or volleyball to try them out and find out if they enjoy playing these sports. There are plans for the Ghajnsielem Redcoats to be able to offer the option to their players to be able to attend volleyball sessions as well. This is in line with the objective of the Club to promote various sports with its members as well as to try to re-introduce this beautiful game to Gozo after an absence of so many years.
