Individual awards were handed to the youth softball players in recognition for their achievements during the 2017/18 season where they dominated the women’s softball competitions in Malta, winning both the Autumn Fastpitch Softball Tournament as well as the National Championship
The Ghajnsielem Redcoats held the annual End-of-Season BBQ at the Universal Sports Bar & Restaurant on July 5 to celebrate what was a truly amazing season for the Club.
A softball game between the youth players of the Club was played at the Gozo Stadium prior to the event. The game was part of the preparation of the Club for the upcoming IGETS training camp and triangular tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, scheduled for July 23-28. The normally lush green Gozo Stadium was covered with sand in preparation for the re-seeding operation which was scheduled for the following day. This worked well for the Redcoats as it provided a surface similar to that which they have to practice and play on during the Zagreb camp.
Pitchers Estelle Scicluna and Monique Attard have done really well this season and they are gradually reaching a level where intra club games can be quite competitive. So have the rest of the players as now that they have become familiar with the game they are starting to sharpen their skills. One of the pleasant surprises of the preparatory sessions leading up to the Zagreb training camp has been Laragh Tabone who has adapted really well playing at 1st base, her new position. The rest of the players have also continued to progress to a point that now the gap between the best players on the team and the rest has narrowed down significantly. This is credit to the individualised attention that the players are getting with efforts to address their areas of weakness.
The BBQ was very well attended as many parents whose children participate in one of the several programmes of the Club attended the event to support the Redcoats in this fund raising activity. Once again Charlie Farrugia of Universal Sports Bar & Restaurant, in charge of the BBQ on the evening, did not disappoint as the food was abundant and of great quality.
The Redcoats received hampers, vouchers and items for the lottery draw from Ta’ Pinu Pharmacy, Ta’ Dirjanu, Bern Hersey Fitness Club, Del Capo Pizzeria, L-Arzella Restaurant, Square Cellar, and Grima’s Fruit & Vegetable Hawker. The Club would like to thank all those who attended the BBQ and the sponsors as well, for their continuing support.
At the end of the BBQ individual awards were handed to the youth softball players in recognition for their achievements during the 2017/18 season where they dominated the women’s softball competitions in Malta, winning both the Autumn Fastpitch Softball Tournament as well as the National Championship. Congratulations to everyone.
