“Gozo is proud of you. Winners at the softball tournament in Zagreb, Croatia. Big well done girls”
Upon their return to Gozo from their exploits in Zagreb, Croatia, the Għajnsielem Redcoats youth softball team received an invitation from the Minister for Gozo, Hon Dr Justyne Caruana, to visit her at the Ministry so that she could personally congratulated the players and their coaches for the success achieved at the IGETS Tournament in Zagreb.
The Għajnsielem Redcoats, who were playing their first ever fastpitch softball competitive game abroad, surprise their much quoted opponents, Olympia Haarlem of the Netherlands and hosts Softball Klub Princ Zagreb of Croatia, to claim the IGETS Tournament. This was a tremendous achievement for the players, their coaches and everyone associated with the Club. The success achieved in Zagreb was also a significant development for softball in Malta and should help its growth.
The meeting with Minister Hon Justyne Caruana took place on Tuesday, July 31, at her offices. She complemented the players and their coaches and told them how proud she is of their achievement. The Minister also indicated that such positive results should certainly help the Club in the quest to have its own dedicated softball facilities. In a post on her Facebook page later on that day, Minister Caruana wrote, “#GhajnSielemRedcoats – Gozo is proud of you. Winners at the softball tournament in Zagreb, Croatia. Big well done girls.”
IGETS is a two-year project co-financed by the European Union. The Għajnsielem Redcoats received assistance from the Ministry of Education and Employment through the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sport & Voluntary Organisations to meet its co-financing obligations.
