Being active is the solution to this generation’s biggest problems: obesity, loneliness, racism, depression among other issues which are plaguing modern society
For the fourth year in a row the Ghajnsielem Redcoats joined millions of people across Europe and participated in the European Week of Sports with an activity intended for the entire family. Once again, SportMalta, the coordinators of the activities in Gozo and Malta, supported the initiative with a supply of multi-coloured t-shirts which were handed to all the participants who took part in a fun coed softball game at the Ghajnsielem Football Ground.
#BEACTIVE is a Europewide call for people to participate in sports. Being active is easier than it sounds! To prove that, each year the EU organises the European Week of Sport during the last week of September to get Europeans moving. This week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. Being active is the solution to this generation’s biggest problems: obesity, loneliness, racism, depression among other issues which are plaguing modern society. A solution that can be found all around us in everyday life. Getting moving in sport clubs and fitness centres or even at work, school or outdoors is worth it. Being physically active is for pride, health, being together, happiness and eco-friendly activity!
The Ghajnsielem Redcoats are very much for increasing the rate of participation in sports especially among women. The Club is keen to organise regularly coed softball games to encourage adults, especially the parents of the players who participate in the various programmes of the Club, to become physically active. However, the lack of access to fields is a major limiting factor. It is hoped that once the Club has its own softball facilities such activities would be much easier to organise.
