REDCOATS U15s TAKE ON NATIONAL TEAM

After having secured the 5th fastpitch national title in as many years, the coaching staff of the Redcoats shifted its focus to prepare the U15 players for the XV Summerdays International Tournament at Castions Delle Mura, Italy, this July.

With several of the players having recently started playing the game, the members of the coaching staff have their work cut out for them. As part of the preparation, the Club scheduled a series of exhibition games against the women’s softball national team who are currently preparing for their first ever European Championship, which will take place in Sant Boi, Spain. The first such game took place on Sunday, 15 May, at the Għajnsielem ground.

Starting pitcher Clarissa Camilleri did exceptionally well, striking out three hitters, as did pitcher Lara Buttigieg who replaced her in the 4th inning. The lack of experience playing fastpitch softball of the U15s contributed to the heavy loss suffered by the Redcoats. There were, however, more positives than negatives, as Thea Sultana (catcher), Courtney Attard (3rd base), Elizabeth Farrugia (1st base), Cassidy Cordina (1st base), and Kyra Cini (2nd base) all performed very well considering that they were playing at those positions for the first time. Shaniya Spiteri played centre field, Maria Attard played right field, while Kirsty Grima was the designated hitter during the game. Amy Debono and Savanna Cutajar, key players for the Redcoats, were not available for the game.

Well done REDCOATS!
