With these two important wins the Redcoats are now clear favourites to win the MABS Youth Softball Minor League for the first time in this club’s short history.

The commitments of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats in the Youth Softball Minor League organised by the Malta Baseball & Softball Association commenced on Sunday, March 1, with a double header at the Sannat Ground.

The Ghajnsielem Redcoats defeated Mellieha 14-0 in first game. The Redcoats put on a fine defensive display to shut out Mellieha. The team also did extremely well offensively scoring 14 runs in 5 innings. Ian Refalo was among the outstanding performers of this game with 4 base hits. His fielding was also impeccable playing at 3rd base.

In the second game for the Ghajnsielem Redcoats they defeated reigning national youth softball champions, the Luxol Mustangs, 5-0 in the MABS Youth Softball Minor League. It was another impressive defensive performance by the Redcoats shutting out the direct rival for the championship. The Redcoats scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and another 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Once again Ian Refalo came up with key hits as well as with solid defensive plays.

With these two important wins the Redcoats are now clear favourites to win the MABS Youth Softball Minor League for the first time in this club’s short history. Next up for the Redcoats is Verdala who won their season opener 7-6 in Mellieha last month. The Redcoats will travel to Marsa on Saturday, March 7, searching for a victory that would clinch the national title.
