RECAP
After a 17-hit assault in the opener of this doubleheader, the Redcoats bats went silent in the second game. They registered only seven hits, three of them by Josef Vella who had a very good day going 6 for 7 over the course of the two games. Steven Galea was the other Redcoats batter who gave a good account of himself with the bat going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Vella drove the only other Redcoats run home.
The turning point in this game came in the bottom of the third inning with the Redcoats up by a run. Shaun Chircop, playing shortstop, felt the full force of a sliding Jayhawks baserunner at second base, while he waited for the ball to force the runner out. Chircop had to limp off the field. Six consecutive Jayhawks reached base in a rally that was capped by a three run shot by Keith Bartolo. Although, Chircop would later return to the field and would also get a base hit, the Redcoats never recovered.
Armando Xuereb had another good outing on the field. He played in short centre-field and added an assist and a putout to the putout he had registered in the opening game of the double header. Nicky Micallef, a youngster on the Jayhawks team, also distinguished himself with the glove. Keith Bartolo, however, outshone the rest of the players going 2 for 3, a home run and a double, with five RBIs.
