The Għajnsielem Redcoats put together two good rallies in the 4th and 6th innings to beat the Mellieha Curves 15-5 in Game 3 of the Fastpitch National Championship Series played on Sunday in Għajnsielem. With that victory the Redcoats now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.
Team/Inning | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | R | H | E |
Mellieħa Curves | 2 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 5 | 6 | 2 |
Għajnsielem Redcoats | 0 | 3 | 1 | 5 | 1 | 5 | 15 | 11 | 2 |
Redcoats starting pitcher Estelle Scicluna was very effective once again but she got plenty of help from her defence. Catcher Corinne Grima made three outstanding defensive plays at critical moments of the game. Gianella Mallia (3rd base), Lara Buttigieg (2nd base) and Dominique Humphrey (1st base) all made several plays that kept the Curves from scoring runs.

One of the key moments of the game happened in the top of the 4th inning when young Courtney Attard, who had just been introduced to the game at right field, caught a fly ball with two Curves on 1st and 3rd base and no outs. Two quick outs followed as the next batter popped up to the catcher while the other grounded out to first base. With just three pitches what looked like a very promising inning for the Curves resulted in no runs coming in to score.

The Redcoats also had a great day at the plate registering 12 hits and 8 walks. Estelle Scicluna and Dominique Humphrey both registered 3 hits and combined for 6 RBIs. Dosithee Attard also had 2 hits.
Another key moment in the game took place in the bottom of the 4th inning when Dominique Humphrey stole home from 3rd base to make the score 9-4 for the Redcoats.

Despite the heavy loss this was not a bad outing for the Curves who have improved significantly since last season. The game was very tight with the outcome uncertain until the start of the bottom of the 4th inning when the game was still tied at 4.
Game 4 will take place next Sunday in Ghajnsielem. The Curves will try their best to even the series whereas the Redcoats will try to continue where they left off on Sunday to take a commanding 3-1 lead.
WELL DONE REDCOATS!
