The first commitment of the Għajnsielem Redcoats at the SIZZLING FASTPITCH INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT was against tournament favourites Sparks Haarlem. This was the second game of Day 1. Sparks beat BC The Herons 11-0 in the opener.

The Redcoats were aware that Sparks will be somewhat overpowering, but did their best to stay in the game. The visitors managed 15 hits and scored 15 runs, whereas the Redcoats scored one run on two hits. Although the Redcoats committed four costly errors which led to runs, they played relatively well defensively. Nicole Cassar, who was playing for the Redcoats for the first time, did extremely well despite being asked to play at 2nd base, her first time playing that position. She registered four assists and a put-out. Marilise Vella who played catcher for the first time in replacement of Corinne Grima who was sick, played really well too, and showed that she can take on the role of catcher. Impressive as well, was the performance of Laragh Tabone who was impeccable at 1st base. She registered six put-outs without committing any errors.

Sparks Haarlem starting pitcher, Noor Soumokil, had an excellent game, striking out eight, allowing only two hits and four walks in five innings.

Overall the Redcoats were quite satisfied with the outing, and were looking forward to their next encounter against the Sparks on Wednesday with the objective to do better.
