REDCOATS at SOFTBALL SCHOOL 24 – 11

The girls and boys of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats U12 team had a very good domestic season playing coach-pitch baseball against the Mellieha Rookies. It is the game that they are familiar with and enjoy playing. This was in evidence on Saturday morning in Cervignano when they faced Softball School of the hosts Friul’81 Softball.

The Redcoats were relentless offensively. A grand slam inside-the-park home run courtesy of a flyball hit by Gilbert Scicluna in the gap at centre field in the first inning set the tone for the game. The Redcoats never looked back and continued to score the maximum four runs in every inning.

Chris Mercieca hit another inside-the-park home run for the second day in a row.

All the players on the Redcoats line up registered hits and scored runs. There were several fine defensive plays as well, as the Redcoats were clinical defensively.

This was a memorable victory for the girls and boys in red. They became the first Redcoats team to win a game on Italian soil and against Italian opposition. We hope the first of many to come.

Once again the Redcoats distributed Visit Gozo gifts and souvenirs to the members of the Friul’81 Softball School team to promote Gozo as a tourist destination.
